Endometrial Ablation
Endometrial ablation is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is used to treat heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding by removing or destroying the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
A medical professional uses a device to destroy the uterine lining, which is the source of the bleeding, thereby reducing the menstrual bleeding to lighter levels or stop it entirely.
The techniques used for this procedure are:
➔Radiofrequency: A thin electrode is used to create heat to destroy the lining.
➔Microwave: Uses a probe to direct microwave energy to heat and thereby destroy the tissue.
➔Cryoablation: Use a cold-tipped tube that freezes parts of the uterine lining.
➔Heated Balloon: A balloon is filled with hot fluid and press against the lining and destroy it.
➔Electricity (Electrosurgery): The lining is destroyed using electrical currents that generate heat.
