Stroke Treatment
Stroke treatment neurological specialisation that focuses on restoring blood flow referred to as ischemic case or by controlling bleeding referred to as haemorrhagic case. These are done, by the use of clot-busters, mechanical clot removal, or by a surgical procedure, which is then followed by an intensive rehabilitation program designed as per the requirement of the patient that could include physical, occupational, speech therapy to regain functions.
1. Emergency Treatment (Acute Phase)
Ischemic Stroke (Blockage):
➔Thrombolytics: Drugs are administered within hours to dissolve clots.
➔Mechanical Thrombectomy: A procedure wherein a catheter is used to physically pull out large clots.
➔Antiplatelets/Anticoagulants: Blood thinners are used to prevent future clots.
Hemorrhagic Stroke (Bleeding):
➔Surgery: That involves the repair of ruptured vessels and remove pooled blood.
➔Medications: To keep the blood pressure in control and treat swelling.
Supportive Care:
IV fluids, managing brain swelling, and life support system where needed.
2. Post-Stroke Recovery & Rehabilitation
➔Physical Therapy: Exercises to regain strength, balance, and mobility.
➔Occupational Therapy: Improve skills are required for day to day activities like dressing, eating etc.
➔Speech Therapy: To improve communication, swallowing, and cognitive issues of memory and problem-solving).
